Tell us a little about yourself
Hi, My name is Melissa Bradbury and I run my personal finance website Mel’s Money Saving and Bargains, as well as a daily deals page of the same name. Here you will find deals, discounts and tips from all over the web.
What’s your side hustle?
What was your motivation for starting?
I did what people usually do when they are looking to earn some extra cash and consulted twitter! At first, I wasn’t sure whether to trust what people were saying, so I thought I would read through some blogs of well-known influencers. I was really surprised that you could earn so much in your spare time and thought that I would give it a bash myself.
How much time do you put into it?
About 3-4 hours per week, sometimes longer during big events. The beauty is that I can pick and choose when I put the time in though, so it fits in just right with a busy person.
And what sort of money are you making?
Now that I have done the initial sign ups its around £400 – £500 per month.
What’s the highlight been so far?
Winning £119 on free spins.
How about the biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge has been taking in the whole process. There are new things to learn all the time with matched betting and it must be right so that you don’t lose anything.
What would you say to someone considering a similar route?
I would say go for it! Take the time to read through everything carefully and get your head straight so that you know what you are doing as there is a lot of information.
What does the future hold for this venture?
I will just keep on doing it for as long as possible as it is a great way of earning some extra cash, equal to a part time job, but on your terms.

I love that this side hustle only takes 3-4 hours a week. Anyone should be able to fit it in.
Absolutely! And if you are prepared to make less you can put fewer hours in. It is completely flexible.

I’ve heard about matched betting before but the thought of trying it always intimidated me. I never realised it could be used as a side hustle though!

My advice would be to spend a little time understanding the steps you are taking first. I realised that once I had figured out a system I was much happy doing it.
