Never knowingly overpaying for something is my goal!  It’s my personal goal AND it’s my goal to help you too.  There are times when you get caught out and have to make a purchase of convenience.   It is normally on these occasions where you end up overpaying.  Some forward planning though and you can all but eliminate these situations AND save money.   Before you make a purchase, ANY purchase.  There are several things I want you to do.  Some of them might only give you a couple of pence back in your pocket but once those pence have been added up you could be a fair bit up.  Overpaying is wasteful and avoidable.  Make sure you take the steps below to avoid it.   1.  Do you really need it? Extreme Frugal Living in 2020? Would you go THIS far?

April 28, 2018

Everyone is talking about extreme frugal living in 2020.  Luckily, it seems to be a bit of a natural state for me.  When left alone I will gravitate towards frugal living.  I love anything that saves me money and double points if it is environmentally-friendly too.   Over the last few years I (not so much Mr. Pennies) have made a few choices that could be called extreme frugal living.  Most people I know would never even consider some these choices.  But wow! I think I love them all.  I have more money and am closer to my zero-waste dream.   So here are my top four extreme frugal living tips for 2020: Can’t read now?  Pin for later. Extreme Frugal Living: Your Children Ok!  Not the whole child, just their nappies.  Cloth nappies are almost mainstream now.  I can go to most baby or toddler groups and find at…

Cheap Parenting Hacks To Save Money (And Be Awesome Parents)

April 22, 2018

Mr. Pennies and I have two little kids.  They are the motivation behind all we do but we refuse to let them be expensive.  Children have very basics need when you look at it.  They need food, drink, clothes, a wash occasionally and cuddles.  Therefore we choose cheap parenting.   When we found out that we were going to have a new member of our family we did what most new parents do and bought all the stuff.  We had entered a completely new world and we were vulnerable to the marketing and advertising.  Over the first few weeks of her life we realised that nearly all of what we had bought was pointless.  With a few simple (yet possibly controversial) parenting choices we were able to save ourselves hundreds if not thousands.   Related posts: Things You Buy Your Kids That I Don’t! 10 Things To Save Money This…

7+ Awesome Side Hustles for Teachers

April 18, 2018

Teaching is a tough job.  We haven’t had a decent pay rise in ages, government cuts are draining resources and exam pressure is pushing us to the limit.  I know this because I teach.  I also know that I can’t teach until I’m 68, so I am constantly looking ways to use my teaching skills to generate additional income and retire early.   Many teachers I know are making money outside of the classroom.  There are very few teachers I know that teach and only teach which is surprising given the amount of time that the job actually takes up.   This is a list of my favourite side hustles for teachers. Can’t read it now?  Pin for later.
